What is Thin Client Technology?

A Thin Client is not a complete desktop computer; it has reduced storage and processing resources.

Thin Clients use considerably less energy than traditional desktop PCs.

They are significantly cheaper than a desktop PCs and the total cost of ownership (TCO) is less.

Thin Clients work in Client-Server architecture networks which depend primarily on a central server for processing and storage.


What is Virtualisation?

Put simply - Virtualisation allows one computer to do the job of many computers by appearing to be more than one system. Virtualisation would allow a single hardware platform to host multiple server instances. It is an effective way of consolidating available space and resources across your network.


What contributes towards the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)?

Factors which contribute towards the TCO of a workplace PC include: hardware/software, maintenance and materials, operations and support, administration.

There are also indirect costs that need to be taken into account; examples of these would be end user operations, downtime and usage of IT equipment for other than intended purposes.


What is Green Printing?

Green Printing is a software driven but user directed method of reducing the number of wasteful pages and content printed.

Users have more control over what is printed, and at the same time save paper and ink.

Less paper means saving trees, saving trees means cutting back on CO2 emissions caused by the manufacturing process of paper.


What is WEEE?

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive is the EU directive on waste caused by electrical and electronic equipment which became European law in February 2003.

The directive set collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical goods.

There are ten major categories outlined in the WEEE directive and they apply to equipment with a voltage of up to 1000 volts AC or up 1500 volts DC.

One of the ten major categories is IT and Telecommunications Equipment.

The 1st of July 2007 was the deadline for implementation of the Waste, Electrical and Electronic regulations.
